Sally Ann (Sherwood) has over 20 years experience in the catering business, managing and cooking in a large tea-rooms in Surrey as well as making cakes there for the wholesale market.

Sally Ann and her partner Chris Jeffery decided to make a new start and moved to Somerset in 2002 where they bought a small, dilapidated farm, which they are still restoring. One priority was to repair and convert the old disused and redundant milking parlour into a proper catering kitchen that would comply with all the relevant health and hygiene requirements.

The business was set up late in 2004, and specialises in traditional home-made cakes, desserts, chutneys, jams and honey which are supplied to local village shops, farm shops and garden centres as well as retailing some at farmers markets and shows.

Sally Ann’s believes in using only the best natural and wherever possible local ingredients in their products.

The wholemeal flour comes from one of the only working watermills in Somerset, the eggs are all free range and come from a nearby flock and the dairy produce from a local farm.

All our cakes are handmade, incorporating traditional methods, no additional additives or preservatives are used.

As well as the everyday cakes and produce Sally Ann’s makes bespoke wedding and celebration cakes.

Chris when he is not continuing with more renovation work on the house, oversees the sales, deliveries along with growing fruit and veg on the farm for use in the cakes and chutneys

During 2006 Sally Ann entered the two cake categories in the BBC series the Great British Village Show (South West Regional Heat) winning both. This resulted in Sally Ann going on to take part in the final, this was held at Highgrove House and gave the opportunity to meet HRH Prince Charles. Sally Ann was successful in achieving national runner up in both classes.

In 2008 Sally Ann’s won a new contract with the Wyevale Garden Centre group which has continued to grow through 2009 and 2010.

January 2010 saw the take over of ‘Aunties Handmade Cakes’ and in turn the expansion of our deliveries in Devon.

At Easter 2010 Sally Ann’s took part in a successful trial of supplying cakes to a subsidiary of the TKMaxx chain.

Sally Ann’s are proud of their cakes and the quality speaks for itself. Proven to be a winner even through times of recession.
